Marlgild is what remains when the garden is paved over in marble and the gold is applied one last time. No lurking, no sting. The vine becomes cornice. We do not lurk or sting — we pose, we peel.
Enter the Salon ❧The gold was laid in the morning. It shone so brightly the mirrors blushed. By noon it had learned restraint. By dusk, a corner had already lifted.
The plaster remembers every footstep. Fine lines spread like veins in marble. None are fatal. All are elegant. The crack is the ornament now.
No music plays, yet the room answers you. A cough becomes a chord. A heel, a chandelier. The hall is polite. It repeats you, softer.
The copper green creeps at the edges of the frames. It is not rot, the curators insist. It is patina. It is age. It is a kind of honour.
A single smear of red on the balustrade. No one confesses. The guides call it «the accidental rose». Visitors lean close. They always do.
One flake hangs by a breath. It has hung for years. Someday it falls. When it does, the room will sound a half-tone lower. No one will mention it.
To pose is not to stand. The bust leans just so. The gold flakes at a graceful angle. Decay here wears gloves. It bows before it takes.
We do not lurk. We pose. In the pose, the tarnish is the dignity.
